Engineering innovation has become a fundamental driver of technological transformation, industrial competitiveness, and sustainable development in the digital era. This study aims to examine recent advances in engineering innovation and their implications for global technological development through a Systematic Literature Review (SLR). The review followed the PRISMA framework and analyzed peer-reviewed articles published over the last five years, retrieved from international databases including Scopus, ScienceDirect, IEEE Xplore, SpringerLink, Wiley Online Library, and Taylor & Francis Online. The findings indicate that the integration of artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, digital twins, cloud computing, data analytics, and cyber-physical systems has accelerated the transition toward intelligent, adaptive, and sustainable engineering systems. Despite these opportunities, engineering innovation continues to face challenges related to system interoperability, cybersecurity, organizational readiness, technology investment, and workforce competencies. The review demonstrates that successful engineering innovation depends on the effective integration of digital transformation, collaborative innovation ecosystems, human capital development, and sustainability principles. The study provides a comprehensive conceptual framework for researchers, engineering practitioners, industries, and policymakers to formulate innovation strategies that enhance technological competitiveness while supporting sustainable global technological development and future engineering advancement.
