Hydrogen energy has emerged as a strategic solution for achieving carbon neutrality and enhancing long-term energy security. Australia and Japan have adopted complementary approaches to hydrogen infrastructure development, with Australia focusing on large-scale renewable hydrogen production and export, while Japan emphasizes hydrogen utilization, import systems, and end-use technologies. This study aims to compare hydrogen energy infrastructure development in both countries through a systematic literature review by synthesizing recent research on policy frameworks, production technologies, transportation, storage, distribution networks, and industrial applications. The review identifies similarities and differences in national strategies, investment priorities, and technological readiness while evaluating the challenges associated with cost reduction, infrastructure integration, international supply chains, and market expansion. The findings indicate that collaboration between hydrogen-exporting and hydrogen-importing countries can accelerate the global hydrogen economy by improving technological innovation, strengthening supply chain resilience, and supporting sustainable energy transitions. The study provides insights for policymakers, researchers, and industry stakeholders seeking to develop efficient, resilient, and low-carbon hydrogen infrastructure.
