Abstract

Digital Twin (DT) has become a key technology in smart construction by integrating Building Information Modeling (BIM), the Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and real-time data analytics to improve project performance and infrastructure management. China and Singapore are among the leading countries adopting Digital Twin to support digital transformation in the construction sector through different implementation strategies. This study aims to systematically review recent research on Digital Twin implementation in smart construction by comparing technological developments, applications, benefits, challenges, and future opportunities in China and Singapore. A Systematic Literature Review (SLR) was conducted using peer-reviewed articles published over the last five years. The review indicates that China emphasizes Digital Twin for large-scale infrastructure and intelligent construction, while Singapore focuses on smart city development, sustainable buildings, and lifecycle asset management. Despite notable progress, challenges related to interoperability, data integration, cybersecurity, implementation costs, and workforce readiness remain significant. The findings provide insights for advancing Digital Twin adoption in sustainable and intelligent construction.
